狩集家遺産相続問題（2巻 – 4巻 episode4）
広島で無事に印象派展を
見ることができた久能整は
広島を軽く観光していたが、
悪漢に襲われた風を装った女性と出会う。
彼女、狩集汐路は犬堂我路から
久能のことを推薦されたという。
話の意図が掴めないまま久能は
汐路の祖父である狩集幸長の遺言を聞くことになる。
狩集家は昔から遺産を
当主となる1人にのみ
相続するのだが実子4人は
すでに亡くなっており、
孫の代にあたる狩集汐路、
狩集理紀之助、波々壁新音、
赤峰ゆらの4人から選ばれることになる。
この遺産相続の形式上、
昔から相続の際に死人が出るという。
それらは事故や病気であると
言われているが汐路は警察の捜査不備を疑っていた。
それぞれが遺産を相続するために
「それぞれの蔵において あるべきものを
あるべき所へ 過不足なくせよ」
という言葉に従い行動する中で
浮上する汐路たちの親の世代4人が
まとめてなくなった事故、
芝居「鬼の集」の脚本家・
宝田完次の自殺、
そして「鬼の集」の内容、
問難の蔵の床下から発見された
無数の人骨、本当の狩集の子孫、
様々な謎を久能は1つずつ解き明かし、
狩集家と鬼にまつわる歴史の謎を推理する。
