ばちあたり夜話（4巻 episode6）
爆弾事件の後、池本巡査に半ば強制的に
検査入院をさせられた久能整。
犬堂我路から送られてきた
謎の指輪に頭を悩ませていると、
いないと思っていた隣のベッドに
人がいたことに気が付く。
元刑事だというその男、
牛田悟郎はいくつかの話をした後に、
連続殺人犯羽喰玄斗に
狙われているという女性を
保護しに向かった時の話を語り始める。
着替えに戻ったせいで遅れて、
相棒は重傷、女性は亡くなってしまったという。
片腕が動かなくなった相棒は
刑事を辞めて、警備会社に入ったらしい。
その話を聞き終えた久能は
1つの疑問を提示した。
女性を相棒である霜鳥信次が
殺害していたというケースに対する言及である。
牛田もそれには気が付いていたようで、
もう長くない命でその証拠を
墓まで持っていくか否か悩んでいたという。
翌朝、隣のベッドには牛田はいなかった。
牛田は昨日の朝に亡くなっていたという。
その空いた牛田のベッドに
見舞いに来た男がいた。
相棒であった霜鳥である。
これは怖い話でした・・・
