女性の夏目が演じることで、
高貴で中性的な三蔵法師像を演出した。
本作品での強烈な印象から、
これ以降リメイクされた全ての

三蔵法師役は女優が演じるという
パターンが踏襲されている。
そのため他方で、
主に低年齢層の視聴者を中心として、
三蔵法師が女性だと勘違いした、
