西遊記は西遊記Ⅱもドラマ化されて、
超人気番組です、

何度も放送されました、
元祖の三蔵法師は、
夏目雅子さんです、

『西遊記』は1978年10月1日～1979年4月8日、
全27回〈本編26話、総集編1回〉で放送されました、
その後、『西遊記II』は1979年11月11日～
1980年5月4日、全26回で放送されました、

特撮は『西遊記』では円谷プロダクションが、
『西遊記II』では東宝映像が協力してくれました。

心美しく3人の弟子の良き指南役である三蔵、
ひょうひょうとした悟浄、
大喰いで女性に滅法弱いが
愛嬌のある八戒などの
演者の個性に合わせたキャラクター設定と、
軽妙な掛け合いが人気を博した。
本作品では、本来男性である三蔵法師を
女性の夏目が演じることで、
高貴で中性的な三蔵法師像を演出した。
本作品での強烈な印象から、
これ以降リメイクされた全ての
『西遊記』のドラマで、
三蔵法師役は女優が演じるという
パターンが踏襲されている。
そのため他方で、
主に低年齢層の視聴者を中心として、
三蔵法師が女性だと勘違いした、
あるいは本作品において
三蔵法師は女性と設定されていると
勘違いした視聴者もいた、
国内・国外にて
何度も再放送が行われ、
音楽を担当した
ゴダイゴの楽曲とともに人気を博した。
