「『監察医 朝顔』は家族の物語なので、2019年に放送が終わった直後から、第1シーズンでは描けなかった結婚後の5年間も含めて、まだまだ色んなお話を紡ぎたいと思っていました。
そんな願いが届き、続編というだけでなく、 “せっかくなら2クールはどうか”と社内から打診を受け、とてもうれしく、考えるよりも先に“やります！”と即答をしたことを覚えています。
この夏、日本中に愛された朝顔一家が、帰ってきます。また視聴者の皆様にご覧いただけること、大変光栄に思います。昨年の夏の終わりから1年経て、今年はなんと年末までご一緒です。一家の四季折々をお楽しみいただけますと幸いです」

原作「監察医 朝顔」を参考に
原作とアレンジについてなんですが、ドラマの原作は漫画「監察医 朝顔」です。
2006年から「週刊漫画サンデー」（実業之日本社）で連載が始まり、6巻以降は電子版のみでの発刊となるも人気を博し続け、2013年発刊の30巻をもって完結をした医療漫画なんです。
原作では、朝顔は阪神大震災により母を亡くした、という設定でした。
今回、連続ドラマ化するにあたり、東日本大震災により母が行方不明になっている、という設定にアレンジしたんです。
フジテレビ系連続ドラマとしては初めて東日本大震災を真正面から扱うんです。
それに伴い原作では、ほぼ一巻でしか触れられなかった震災と母の存在に向き合う父娘の日常と心の機微を、本作では前面に押し出し、深く、そして細やかに描いていくことにしたんです。
監察医とは？
法医学者と監察医について監察医とは、東京23区、大阪市、神戸市などの監察医制度のある地域で、事件性の疑いがない死因不明の遺体の死因究明を専門に監察医務院に勤める法医学者です。
監察医制度のある地域では、事件性の疑いのある遺体の死因究明は主に大学の法医学教室に勤める法医学者が担当する。
監察医制度のない地域では、法医学者が監察医の役割も兼ねる。
