筋膜とはなんでしょうか？
筋膜とは筋肉を覆っている膜です。筋膜は筋肉を線路のように繋げているんですね。よくご家庭で鶏肉を買ってきて食べる時があると思うんですが、鶏肉の皮と肉の部分に薄い半透明の膜がありませんか？これが筋膜のイメージとなります。
この筋膜があるおかげで、筋肉同士が滑らかに滑走することで、運動が行えるんですね！

竹井（出典）は筋膜のねじれは筋肉や血管、神経にも影響を与えて、さらには筋膜の基質の生化学的、免疫学的変化を生じさせる。結果として、機能異常は全身に及びこともあり、急性の障害が治癒した後にも持続的な徴候をもたらすことさえある、と言っているんです。

体の痛みってどこから来るんですかね？
膝が痛い！膝の軟骨が減ってきたから骨が当たって痛いんだ！
痛みを感じてくれる場所は筋膜上にあると言われているんですね。筋膜上には痛みを感じるセンサーがあってニューロンもあるんですね。このセンサーが脳に痛いと信号を送っている訳なんです。
ここで筋膜と水の関係が出て来るんです。
筋膜の水の流れが悪くなると痛む
筋膜は層構造になっており、筋膜の間には間質液という水が流れているんですね。筋膜に問題が無いときには、水は筋膜の間をスムーズに流れて行きますので、痛み物質も流れていくんですね。
ちなみに痛み物質は体内のカルシウムに由来する化合物であることがわかってきています。
日常的な負担が筋肉にかかり筋膜にゆがみが生じると、筋膜の層構造が乱れて水の流れが悪くなってしまうんです。そうなると筋膜上にある痛みセンサーが痛み物質を感知して、痛みが脳へと伝搬されるんです。
